It’s that special time of the year again, Williamstown Football Club’s Annual Golf Day! This year, the competition was hosted by Sanctuary Lakes Golf Club, an impressive course located in Melbourne’s west. Held on Thursday, 20th November, the event brought sponsors of the Williamstown Football Club together for a relaxed day on the greens, offering the right blend of networking and friendly competition.
As a proud sponsor of the event, Red Herring Digital also hosted a high-stakes hole-in-one competition, giving players the chance to win a $25,000 prize. With plenty of excitement and a round to be played, the atmosphere was set for a fantastic day on the course. Read on for the highlights of the day.
Sanctuary Lakes Golf Club
Sanctuary Lakes Golf Club is an immaculate 18-hole course set amongst native brush, tall gum trees, and rolling fairways. This championship golf course is designed by none other than Australian former professional golfer Greg Norman, who won 91 professional tournaments during his golf career. The course offers a challenge for the best of players set against a beautiful backdrop with sweeping views across the lakes.
On the day of the event, the weather was the first to show up, with the dynamic mix of alternating sun and clouds only adding to the energetic atmosphere of the morning. The competition was held on the back 9 holes, and members of the Red Herring Digital team were stationed at the 17th hole – the party hole. Laughter carried across the course as players aimed – adjusting for the wind – and setting the tone for the day as teams prepared to tee off.
Beyond the golf, Sanctuary Lakes Golf Club ensured our playing experience was top-notch, with a well-kept course and an upbeat atmosphere that kept spirits high.
The Red Herring Digital hole-in-one challenge
To add to the day’s fun, Red Herring Digital upped the stakes with a hole-in-one competition that gave players a chance to take home a $25,000 prize. The challenge took place on the 17th hole, a tricky par 3 set alongside the picturesque lake.
We saw many great attempts at the challenge, with many landing on the fairway, a couple of impressive shots to the green, a few landing in the bunkers, and one or two into the marshland.
Players were granted a second attempt at redemption with a twist. Simply spin the wheel for either helpful advantages or hilarious constraints. Some players enjoyed the opportunity to move their ball closer to the target while others took the shot left-handed or blindfolded.
The mix of skill, luck, and chaos made the hole one of the most talked-about highlights.
While no one managed to hit the $25,0000 ace, there were a few who came very close!
And as a consolation for players, they enjoyed some Kraken Rum in their Red Herring Digital stubby holders, a funny story to tell at dinnertime, and a goody bag to take home.
