1. Make sure your emails are optimised for mobile.

50% of all internet traffic comes from mobile, which is absolutely massive. This means that there is a 50% chance that your email is being opened on a mobile device. In addition to this, research shows that 71% of people will delete an email if it doesn’t display correctly on their mobile device. This means your emails should be eye-catching, in a single-column design that works well with the vertical scroll. GIFS, large images and large CTA buttons.

2. Strong subject lines

The subject line is the most important written component of your email marketing. It needs to be strong and engaging. This means if you’re promoting a specific offer or sale, put it in the subject line! Don’t bury the lead. Don’t forget, subject lines need to be compelling enough to encourage someone to open the email.

3. Have a clear call to action

Don’t get lost in the weeds without a call to action. Know exactly what you want your recipient to do. Whether it’s signing up to a newsletter, shopping a sale or asking for a survey, if your recipient isn’t clear on what they are supposed to do within the first 5 seconds of opening the email, then studies show they’ll close the email.

4.Consider timezones

It’s easy to forget about interstate or international timezones, especially within Australia. However, what time the email is sent can make a huge difference. It’s also critical to consider what times your audience will be online. If needed, you could segment send times between different states, or for different professions. As an example, it’s unlikely that tradespeople will be online as the same time as marketers.

4. Track Your Emails

UTM codes are your best friends.  A UTM code “is a snippet of simple code that you can add to the end of a URL to track the performance of campaigns and content” (Agency Analytics). UTM codes are a great way to measure how effective your email marketing is. You can see how much of your traffic is coming from emails, and in addition, if your subscribers are converting.
